Exemption for Rent Receipts

Employees who receive HRA up to Rs. 3,000 per month are not required to submit receipts for proof of rent paid. This is only for concession of TDS & for regular assessment of the employee, the Officer will be free to make such enquiry as he deems fit for the purpose of satisfying himself that the employee has incurred actual expenditure on payment of rent or not.

Either a rent receipt or rental agreement suffices to show as proof of evidence to the employer, so that he will compute the taxable portion of HRA as per section 10 (13) of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
