India have registered a massive victory against Sri Lanka at Kanpur giving them their 100th Test win and the number 1 position in Test cricket.

Resuming at 57 for 4 today (November 27) the Lankan batsman offered little resistance and were all out just after lunch. India won by 144 runs.

India began the day with a bang when Zaheer Khan gave the home side the important breakthrough getting Angelo Mathews caught at slips by Dravid.

P Jayawardene was the 6th wicket to fall bowled by Harbhajan Singh for 29.

Harbhajan Singh has been the star for India this morning, picking up Lanka's 7th wicket trapping Herath leg before the wicket.

Pragyan Ojha also got into the mix as he bowled Muralitharan to claim Lanka's 8th wicket.

Speaking at the after match press conference, Indian captain Dhoni expressed his satisfaction with both the bowlers and batsmen and added that he felt privileged to be leading this Indian side.

The wicket was getting slower and slower as the days progressed. We kept up the pressure at both ends. The bowlers kept things really tight. We kept getting wickets at regular intervals which prevented the batting side from gaining a momentum,” said Dhoni adding that Sreesanth’s 5-wicket-haul contributed immensely.

“The batsmen did a real good job winning the toss, electing to bat. After that we got some early wickets and that was specially done by Sreesanth who was at his best and used the reverse swing very effectively. He was bowling in the right areas - it was good to see him in action. The spinners did their job – it was a good debut for Ojha as he got 4 wickets in that Test. He kept it real tight and wherever he got the opportunity they got the wickets for us. Bhajji was also good. Over all I think the batsmen and bowlers did their job,” said the Indian captain.

Sri Lankan captain Sangakkara also said Sreesanth’s performance in the first innings spelt doom for his team.
