Dear All,
Whether FDI in companies engaged in the activity of providing news or views through online/digital magazine or periodicals on its website and app will fall under the category ‘Print Media’ i.e. publishing of newspaper and periodical (which contains a magazine as specified in the extant FDI Policy) dealing with news and current affairs?.
In this regard, I have across in FIPB Review 2014 publication that FIPB in case of M/s News Laundry Media Private Limited has formed an opinion that News through own “website” can be treated as digital printing and hence the activity would be akin to Publishing of Newspaper and periodicals dealing with news and current affairs. However, the extant FDI Policy 2017 does not explicitly mentions that digital periodicals or magazines dealing with news and current affairs fall under the ambit of “Print Media”.
In case anyone has dealt with a similar issue, request for them to share their inputs.
