Can anyone clarify me what is the general practice regarding the provisioning of NPA for nationalised as well as other scheduled banks? Is it statutory to provide for NPA provisions at branch level or the provisions will be provided only at H.O after consolidating the accounts.

NPA provisioning is required to be done at every branch separately.
the rate of provision varies with the time with which the income accrue on an asset has been overdue.
its generally 3 months from the date its become first due.
