Presentation in a CA PAPER

IPCC 2033 views 12 replies

Knowledge has to be presented well or else it is difficult to influence.

For May 2010 IPCC exams there is nervousness and all sort of silly doubts when it comes to presenting my PAPER more effectively in writing.

I request some really good tips of “presentation” dealing with subjects when writing with a goal to convince the examiner and make it more effective.

I can offer some tips that might prove useful:

1. Try to write as neatly as possible, preferrably with pen that is dark.

2. Give numbered points and bullets, wherever possible.

3. Underline key words in sentences.

4. Provide a heading for every answer, and for every new block of text within an answer.

5. Leave a line after every para and every point.

6. In Practical questions, indicate clearly what you are computing, for every step.

I get your tips! thanks for the list Aditya

also, underlining of keywords has to be by a pen or pencil?

becoz silly as it might sound but ICAI has warned of any particular indications/marks in the paper, so i just need to know a bit more about the point:"Underlining of Keywords"

As per the recent instructions, you are permitted to use pencils for diagrams, graphs etc. Many students I know underline key words with pencil. But I'd advise that you use a pen for that, just to be safe.

Thank You.

Hope to stick around with more interesting topics

good bye!.. and yes more tips are welcome :)

In a Practical subject working notes forms integral part of ur answer.Give a refernce numbr to every working note and where ever ur taking the help of the working note in the main answer do quote that working note reference number so that the examiner will get to know how u arrived at a particular figure.

In theory underling key words wid the same pen with wich ur writing ur exam is recommened.

My dear fca friends please wish me for clearing

rajat    ..........

1 more point i would like 2 add....2 above lists....

plz dont b too lenghty... b precise to ur answer....

as long answers will give a blury image 2 examiner.... which might affect ur markings....

Hi, as far as presentation is asked, i believe it comes after ur knowledge.... like QUALITY MATTERS MORE THAN QUANTITY.... As megha correctly said, u've to b precise to ur answers, not very lengthy not very short...

As such, i've cleared PCC., in 1st grup, i never bothered abt presentation in LAW/AUDIT coz for me, sections were more important.... And trust me, i presented my anwers in worst manner, but the content i gave was best according to me... I got exemption in both subjects... In practicals, presentation hardly matters, its the answer or solution u've to provide....

Moreover, for practical subjects like, tax, audit, law, etc., u've to apply ur practical knowledge and write answers accordingly.... For e.g in audit case studies, don't provide only bookish knowledge and comment on that.., but do explain the reasons and imp. express ur understandings towards the topic.., this is the key factor to attract examiner....

For pencil and all, avoid them, use dark blue pen to write and little bit light blue or gel pen to underline,, thats most advisable...

So, in my regards, presentation hardly matters or can say it comes in end....

Totally Agree With Dhirav....me also believe in tht me also got Exemption in Account and Audit , Nd in Law Me Score 59 Near to xemption........So follow Dhirav Idea....QUALITY MATTERS MORE THAN QUANTITY....

Thanks, those tips were really good.

But can someone even comment on the handwriting, because when i try to write fast my handwriting looks bad but when i write slow, it looks legible and neat, but then i am unable to finish my paper, thats what happened in Nov 2009 exams.

Thanks will appreciate the views of the members.......

In times when the paper is impossibly lengthy, I try and ensure that my words are clear and readable where it matters most. That includes headings, conclusions and provisions.

Your handwriting doesn't need to be particularly very good. Just proper Indentation, spacing and gaps should impart an overall neat look to your paper.

When I read examiner comments following points are often repeated for the students, i.e.:
Students need to work on grammar
The answers of the candidates showed lack of knowledge and understanding of the subject
Lacking command over the fundamentals of the subject
The candidates need more practical and conceptual exposure of the subject, etc.

The only appreciation that most examiners come is for a particular question in any paper that many students succeeded to answer and alternative solutions in some cases tried by students.
It is surprising that these points are continuing till date which often leaves students to possibly wonder – should they give more attention towards presentation or preparation?
