WHY P.L.A IS MADE IN EXCISE BY COMPANIES

excisable goods cannot be removed from factory without paying duty.. every time manufacturer cannot run to department and pay... thus, to avoid difficulties to manufacturer, department came up with PLA (personal ledger account).. here, duty is paid in advance.. say duty for june will be paid in may on estimate basis...

Unlike other taxes, in excise you can pay duty through Challan more than required amount and the balance amount is adjusted with future liability.
PLA is just prepared for that purpose. In which at the time of paying amount to the bank you show this amount in Credit side. And when you utilise this amount for payment of duty, it is shown in Debit side. And balance is carry forward. In the next month you can utilise this amount.
So PLA is prepared.
