Original return processed with higher refund amount

Asking on behalf of friend.

Filed original return and later revised return both before July 31.

Original return had higher refund amount. Revised return had lower refund amount.

Now, he got an email and sms saying original return is getting processed based on original higher refund amount.

What would happen in that case once revised returns will get processed? The intent of filing revised return was to show more income and hence less refund.

Does he need to intimate Income tax department? Or wait for revised return to process?

The tax department has begun processing the original return with the higher amount. Wait for revised return to process
If refund amt credited in the assessee account there demand notice which u will have to pay
Generally revised return replaces the original return. Revised return would have been processed instead of original return
These type of aspects are being checked thoroughly.
Need not intimate to Department

How long does it take for the revised return to be processed if the original is processed ahead of the revised?  The revised was filed the immediate next day, still revised is not processed even after many weeks..
