298 sections , with fourteen schedules are in Income tax act 1961.

Out  of fourteen schedules , Ninth schedule  was omitted  w.e.f 1-4-1988  and Tenth schedule  was omitted  w.e.f 1--4-2000 .

The Income Tax Act contains a total of 23 chapters and 298 sections.
