NRI working with Indian clients

Tax queries 245 views 1 replies

I am an NRI living in Dubai who works with several clients in India. My place of working is Dubai and the work is done online.

My clients have asked if they can deposit their payments to my NRO account. But my question is will this require me to pay income tax? Since this is payment in return for services offered from abroad, do I qualify for this since my effective place of working is outside India.

According to my research, income deposited in NRO does attract income tax. However, since India and the UAE have a DTAA agreement, can I request money not be held for tax in India?

It will be taxable, unless paid to your UAE bank account.
