No itr v / digital signature.. is that possible?

CBDT is now considering either bringing a notification to make a change in the rules or an amendment in the I-T Act stipulating that taxpayers filing their returns online will no longer need to send ITRV through post to the Bangalore office. The new measure, deliberated upon by the Finance Ministry and CBDT, will mean that the taxpayer will not even have to procure a digital signature as the department feels it has enough technology at its disposal to check cases of fake returns or under-reported I-T returns.

Sending ITR V/ signing with Digital signature authenticates the IT return. There are cases where PANs are registered on e filing site without PAN holder's knowledge. A painful procedure follows to get the new password. In such situation is it wise to do away with Sending ITR V/ signing with Digital signature procedure? In that case anyone could file anyone's return without his knowledge.

When one registers with an online services on a website, the website will send an email on the email address of the person registering with the website. The email contains a verification link. He then have to validate the registration process by clicking on the URL link given in the email. He then receives another email confirming the completion of the registration.

I think this method should be brought in by the IT dept in order to complete the acknowledgement process during ITR filing. They may do away with physical ITR-V form for individuals after bringing in the above method of confirmation. We have no clue how difficult it must be to check each and every physical copy of ITR-V at CPC bangalore. There must be millions of ITR-V copies. Online validation will reduce time, won't increase risk, and to a great extent reduce labour hours at CPC.

Just an idea.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I agree, but may be they should fix a limit( for example upto net income of Rs 10L .. ITRV not necessary), just to reduce the risk.
