Missing 80e exemption in form-16

ITR 599 views 5 replies

Hi,

I have submitted the proofs for interest deducted in the educational loan so that the amount would be considered under IT exemption for FY 2012-13. Unfortunately, it got missed in the consideration and it is not present in my Form-16.

So, can I add that amount now in ITR directly to claim the returns?  Or, is there any particular procedure to do that?

Please clarify.

Thanks,

Can anybody respond to this post please?

Thanks,

Hi Rajkumar,

YES, you can very much claim deduction directly in ITR. Form 16 is the important but not final document. Apart from Sec 80E deduction, if there are some other aspects (even though missed out in Form 16), you can directly show in your ITR.

Hi Yogesh,
Thanks a lot for your reply.  I'll include that amount in the 80E of VI-A sheet of xls.

My follow-up question is:

Since 80E is not there in Form-16 and I am trying to claim it, should I need to post the proof of bank certificate while posting the ITR acknowledgement form?  Any idea about this?

Thanks.

NOT AT ALL,

Any assessee is not supposed to send any other document (except ITR Acknowledgement) to CPC, Bangalore. Just have that certificate with you only for your record. It MAY be required in future by the I T Dept (though chances are very rare that they will demand this from you, because of fact of Salary Return)

Hi Yogesh,

Got it now.  Thanks again for clarifying this in detail :)
