Mandatory declaration of TaxIDNumber for NRI

I've been filing my US based, NRI son's ITR. He works in US and has non-repatriable investments in India, on which 33% TDS is routinely deducted From A.Y. 2019-20, it is mandatory to furnish Tax ID no. (Which, I've been told on this forum, is same as US Social Security Number)
My son has deep reservations about divulging this info., since, he says, even US Govt. (IRS) doesn't share this number, on demand. What should I do?And,How secure is it to give this info. in ITR Form ?

You can file grievance on the portal for the safety for declaration of TIN number.

Also can discuss the issue with officers on helpline.

Try it "XXXXXXX"

it is mentioned in the instruction sheet of ITR- 2 that if assessee does not have TaxID no. then he can give Passport no.
Thanks Surbhi, for your reply. However, I downloaded 44 page PDF file "Instructions for filling out FORM ITR-2. (AY 2019-20)", detailing item by item instructions to fill up the Return Form. But I couldn't find any mention of giving Passport number, in place of Tax ID number. Can you be more specific and help me out ??
