Bharat Ratna Mr.Kamaraj
Ex CM of Tamil Nadu
Full name is Kumarasami Kamaraj. Born on 15-July-1903. His father Kumarasamy was a coconut merchant.
Referred to as Kingmaker in the early 1960s. He was the CM of Tamil Nadu from 1954 till 1963. He is part of the Independance Movement. He is the key person for making two Prime Ministers in 1960s viz Lal Bahadur Sastri in 1964 and Indira Gandhi in 1966.
He is best known for his initiatives for Free Education and providing free mid day meals to school children. He was awarded BHARAT RATNA posthumasly in 1976.
In his early life, he was jailed during June'1930 for participating in Salt Satyagraha in Calcutta Alipore Jail.
Under his leadership, he constructed Various dams for thebenefit of Agriculture...
He died on 2-Oct-1975
A large number of statues have been erected across the state of Tamil Nadu.
