Jurisdiction question

If a person shifted from Agra to Mumbai 4-5 years back but the address record in the PAN database as shown ater logging in incometaxefiling.gov.in is of Agra, what address should I write in the ITR while filing return? Can I write the current Mumbai address and the ward accordingly or do I have to write the one which is of Agra since the address in the PAN hasn't been changed as of yet?

You need to intimate the department regarding the change in address. You may file online request for making correction your address by log in to tin.nsdl.

Then file the return on the basis of new jurisdiction, once you are confirmed that the addresss has been changed in the department database.

yashsr JI This is the problem in ITD Database which I also faced many time.

when ever u check the same from the website it will show the original data i.e. when u have applied the PAN. So I will suggest u to visit the I.Tax Department are ask them to check the jurisdiction. I think if u have shifted to Bombay 4-5 yrs back your PAN might have been trasferred to the Mumbai.

In my cases we got trasferred the PANs from the Rohtak to delhi but same was shown as lying with AO of Rohtak on the IT Website but when we visted the Rohtak office and ask them about jurisdiction they told us that PAN has been trasferred to Delhi.

So donot bother and file the return at address of Bombay.

and if possible u can ask the IT officials of Mumbai office about the jurisdiction

Dear Yash,

Best way is to apply for updatation of database with ITD by applying in rlevant form, if you have not done it earlier. After this you can file your return.

If you want to file return without change the address then you file it online.

Isn't the given below the relevant form?:

Form 49C 'Changes in Pan...'

Or is there some other way to change it?
