Legal Metrology Act changes under Jan Vishwas 2.0 mainly introduce a compliance-first approach. In several provisions, the first contravention is proposed to be dealt with through an improvement notice, the second through monetary penalty/fine, and subsequent contraventions through enhanced fine-based consequences. The objective is decriminalisation/rationalisation of minor procedural lapses, while core compliance under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and Rules continues to remain applicable.
