Legal Metrology Act changes under Jan Vishwas 2.0 mainly introduce a compliance-first approach. In several provisions, the first contravention is proposed to be dealt with through an improvement notice, the second through monetary penalty/fine, and subsequent contraventions through enhanced fine-based consequences. The objective is decriminalisation/rationalisation of minor procedural lapses, while core compliance under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and Rules continues to remain applicable. Please refer to the notified Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act/Bill text and latest DCA updates for section-wise amended wording.
