ITR-2 validation errors in AY 2026-27 are mostly coming from three common places:
1. SCHEDULE CG (Capital Gains): Quarter-wise breakup is mandatory this year even if you only had transactions in one quarter. Leave the remaining quarters blank and the portal rejects it. Enter 0 in quarters with no transactions.
2. SCHEDULE FA (Foreign Assets): If your AIS shows any foreign remittance (even from a foreign employer for WFH income or stock options), Schedule FA becomes compulsory. Blank Schedule FA when AIS has foreign income data triggers a validation error.
3. SPECIAL RATE TAX COLUMNS: If you have equity LTCG under Section 112A, each row needs both the amount AND the applicable tax rate filled in. The validation checks for consistency between the rate column and the computed tax. A zero in the rate column when gain is non-zero causes a reject.
Practical fix: if using the online portal, try downloading a fresh pre-fill (do not reuse a pre-fill older than 7 days) before retrying. Portal schema changes mid-season make older pre-fills incompatible.
