Quick Summary
If you've paid an outstanding demand via Challan 280 offline after filing your ITR-1, the IT Department's system should automatically adjust the demand once the payment appears in your Form 26AS. This usually takes 7-10 working days. If the payment isn't reflected automatically, you can file a reply with your challan details to claim credit for the tax paid.

Once you have paid amount against outstanding demand, IT DEPT system will be automatically adjusted with outstanding demand.
The offline payment should appear in your Form 26AS on the CPC-TDS portal and also on the IT portal by 7-10 working days.Once it gets uploaded on the IT portal, the demand would be setoff against the payment. If the payment is not automatically uploaded on the IT portal for some technical reason, you can file a reply stating that the tax has been paid and give the challan details such as challan serial no, BSR Code and date of payment. The IT system will check the same and give due credit for the tax paid against the outdtanding demand.
