Itr-4 or 4s for nri, and if itr-5 is needed too?

Dear Experts,

I live in US and was hired by an Indian Intellectual Property services outsourcing firm as a consultant for around 9-10 months. They issued me Form 16-A for TDS. Now I am wondering if:

  1. I need to file ITR-4 or ITR-4S?
  2. Once I submit either of these online, do I need to fill ITR-5 and mail a hard copy to the Bangalore office?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Amit

I guess you are an NRI. Was all this payment made in India in your NRO account? Yes once you fill any form, you have to send ITRV to Banglore address or if you have an EVC.

Thanks Uttam. I'm an NRI but I don't have NRO account. All amount were paid in my Indian regular Savings account. It would be great if you can help me with answers to both Q.1 and Q.2. Regards, Amit

If you are an NRI you cannot have a savings acount in India, NRO is the way to go, its history now I suppose. Anyways you fill ITR4s as per certain conditions you fulfill, please go thru the form and you willunderstnd what all you need. 2Q is already answered above.

Since you say u have provided consultancy services it is part of profesional income and further u r an NRI and hence ITR4S cannot be filed. ITR4 to be used. There is no need to send hard copy of ITR-V if certain conditions are satisfied (i.e. if u verfiy through Aadhar card, internet banking etc)

Thank you Poornima. I was especially worried about if I need to send a hard copy. I have already linked my Aadhar number so I guess electronic submission should be enough now.

Yeah..if u have verified the ITR with Aadhar number, then no need to send hard copy of ITR-V
