ITR 1 House Property Selection

ITR 285 views 9 replies

This is a common confusion I had for long.

In ITR-1 , there is option for type of house property.

  • Self Occupied
  • Let out
  • Deemed Let out

My question is why there is no option not applicable and this is common format since begining of ITR 1 ?

What if person does not own house but also not staying in rented house ? ( Like usually staying with Parent most  common case in India)

In past someone suggest Self Occupied and some say different option.  Not sure just for this it needs to corrected old ITR as there is no financial transaction.

What option is correct in what case ? What should be selected from now onwards for this value ?

'Not filling any data' is the correct option, as it is not applicable in such cases.

Thanks for quick reply.

In this case, do person needs to correct past ITR as well ? Also as this time we know start filing no data but as there is no option like Not applicable as it has "Select" and other three option mention above.

If just keep "Select" will work and is there any problem with choosing this option now or this year ITR compare to past ITR submit.

You are not allowed to rectify old ITRs now.

Secondly, start with correct filing method, and forget about the old processed ITRs, as it is not compared in general, unless any major cause.

Thanks for quick reply @ Dhirajlal

Will not bother much and just to clarify , In this case if I choose "Select"  and no other option will be the correct right. As don't own any house or not staying on rent or not rented house to other and simple no house in my name.

As such 'Select' means no option from the below; or in simple way 'not filling any data'.

Please mention the aseesment year .

@ sabyasachi : Any specific reason for asking assessment year?

This is for current assessment year. It looks something like this.  This is how it looks. This is similar to last couple of year. Not sure that warning display or not.

As there is select and other option present it create some confusion. I think by adding option like "Not applicable" this can be more intutive and simple to understand.

I have attached pdf file and option that current display.

Tried to add in thread as image but it display some error.  Sorry for that.

Dear all

Union Govt has already said that CBDT has full power to peek into each and everything of life of every resident [not only citizen] of India. So one is supposed to assist in the peeking by providing each and every info.

Some tax payers already received notice to provide full details of their daily expenses on each and everything, like ration [ milk bread curd chapati, wheat rice daal vegetables, non veg items], bus fare, uber/ola, kfc etc etc for each of the 365 days of the financial year. Everyone is to jot down all this info daily at the end of the day to provide to I-T Dept. This was in news few months ago.

Huge data centres with hundreds of AI agents would be going through all this data.
