A company is registered in Excise, does it needs to inform the concerned department - if it adds a new item in its product portfolio ?

No need if the product falls in same tariff heading for which you have taken registration if it falls in different tariff heading amendment in excise registration to be done but not so strict you can show the same in your return and pay excise accordingly
