Quick Summary
If your Input Tax Credit (ITC) has been disallowed because your invoice lacked the necessary details as per GST regulations, you should request your supplier to issue a corrected invoice that complies with GST rules. Once you receive the proper invoice, you can then claim your ITC. The proviso to Rule 36 of the GST rules outlines the mandatory fields required for a tax invoice to claim ITC, but allows for credit even if some details are missing, provided key information like tax charged, goods/services description, total value, supplier/recipient GSTIN, and place of supply are present.

Request to supplier for issue invoice as per GST rules and file return

After that you can claim ITC

Proviso to Rule 36 provides the mandatory fields required in a vendor tax invoice to avail ITC -

Provided that if the said document does not contain all the specified particulars but contains the details of the amount of tax charged, descripttion of goods or services, total value of supply of goods or services or both, GSTIN of the supplier and recipient and place of supply in case of inter-State supply, input tax credit may be availed by such registered person. - Inserted vide Notf no. 39/2018-CT dt. 04.09.2018
