I recently paid 1.8 lakhs rupees to pursue industry level certifications in IT sector (Vendor - RedHat).

Upgrading your skill set is one of most basic tasks but it comes with a very hefty price.

Can I claim any sort of tax benefit here?

What type of Profession your are in and what is composition of income you derive.

This will be determine claiming of fees for certification course

I am currently working as a Senior Software Engineer. What do you mean by composition of income? Sorry, didn't get that.

Income composition in your case looks to be Salary income and income from other sources. No professional income.

I don't think you will be able to claim that fees for certification course under income Tax Act.

This will lead to higher pay package and increased salary income.
