is self study possible ?

My Finals r in Nov  this year. I am going to give only first group.I started with SFM (MAFA) but not able to understand it. Plz tell me if self study is possible for this subject or coaching is reuired ? So plz tell me any book or notes that should i follow to get a grip over the subject apart of Suggested anwers & Compilation of Module ?
