Hello,

I had asked this last time also but didn't get a clear picture of it. I want to ask whether an individual who is carrying on his consultancy business (Ref here is Vastu Consultant) and not having any invoice, but has a current account in the name of his business, required to pay a profession tax??? And if yes then as any other professional he has the gestation period of 2yrs...i.e he need not pay the P.T in the 1st 2years.....I went through the Profession Tax  Act..but got confused...Pls guide me properly on this.

have you taken any certificate from Municipality under shops and establishments act to do this?

then PT applicable otherwise not.

Professional Tax depends from state to state as per my knowledge and there are certain requirements to be fulfilled before coming into the purview of Professional tax. Generally PT is a very small payment and everyone oblige to pay the amount.

It is compulsory for payment of PT either by salaried person or self employed depending on the State.  The person whose age is more that 65 years and handicapped person as defined under the respective state laws is exempted from payment of Professional Tax.
