Is it Mandatory to obtain TAN for branches of a company>

Hi all

Is it mandatory for a company to obtain a seperate TAN (Taxpayer account number) for its branch operations situated in a different assessment circle / state.

The FAQs in Incometaxindia.com states that the companies can obtain, but is there anything wrong if i use the same number for all branches,

Respected CA Sureshji,

 

No. The Branch will have to pay TDS on the TAN of the head office. There is no ne to obtain a new TAN for the branch offices.

Good & logical Quesion.

My view is sperate TAn should be taken for branches in sepeate states.

As per as our experience of Income Tax Department, whatever can be done must be done.

I will also try to find an exact answer to your question.
