It may vary from institute to institute...for exp IIM's demand graudation...

You should verify the site of university from where you intend to pursue PHD
Visit the site of Insitute and check the eligiblity creteria for PHD..
for example North Maharashtra University : one can pursue PHD if he holds CA degree
