Yes You can. The books provided by Institute are most comprehensive and more over ,Questions also come from them only.However as course material is very voluminous, you would have to use Notes to remember it.

I have also studied only from books provided by Institute and have cleared both groups in my first attempt in May 2012. I am at present uploading my Notes on my blog www.castudyarena.com.

To be honest and frank, I dont think ICAI study materials are good enough for preparation. Yes, you must refer the practise manuals published by icai but the text books published by icai are not good at all. I recommend following books (if you are not taking any classes/ coaching) for your preparation- Accounts (both groups) - PC Tulsian, Law Ethics and com- Munish Bhandari, Audit- Surbhi Bansal, Cost n Fm- PC Tulsian, IT n SM- Padhuka.
