Interest for late deposit of TDS

TDS 3365 views 4 replies

The Finance Bill proposes to create a separate class of default in respect of tax deducted but not paid to levy interest at a higher rate of 1.5 per cent per month, i.e. 18 per cent p.a. as against 1 per cent p.m., i.e. 12 per cent p.a., applicable in case the tax is deducted late after the due date. The rationale behind this amendment is that the tax once deducted belongs to the government and the person withholding the same needs to be penalized by charging higher rate of interest.

thanks ratan for sharing, but you could say that in simple :-

Interest on TDS @ 1% p.m. or part of the month till 30.06.2010

Interest on TDS @ 1.5% p.m. or part of the month after 01.07.2010...................

Interest on TDS..

i have not seen anybody depositing interest on late payment of TDS.

please tell me. why people calculate and deposit interest on late payment of Tds.

:-)

Dear Pravesh,

As you know the due date of Payment of TDS is 7th of the next month. In case u are not able to deposit the same with in the due date, some shall be liable for interest. So, it is advisable to deposit the tax early before 7th day or add interest on said TDS if you are not able to deposit on the due date.

hope ur doubt will be cleared.

regards,

ratan

Yes interest on delay in depositing TDS should be paid before filing of TDS quarterly return.

One of my clients received a notice for not deposit for interets of TDS though the deposit was in time and if there was a delay the same was paid and we are still unable to compute how the demand has been brought about by the department
