Interest and dividend from the US

An Indian RESIDENT gets interest and dividend from a US brokerage account. Will the income be aggregated with Indian income and taxed per Indian slab rates, or are there any special rates for such income? Foreign tax credit may be ignored for this query. If special rates apply and are higher than tax slab rates, can the taxpayer opt for the Indian slab rates? Thanks

Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies how interest and dividend income earned from a US brokerage account by an Indian resident is taxed. The income is generally aggregated with other Indian income and taxed according to Indian slab rates. However, taxpayers can opt for the lower of the Indian slab rate or the rate specified in the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) between India and the US.

Can opt for slab rate or as specified in DTAA agreement, whichever lower..

Thanks for your prompt response
