Incorrect PAN number & Bank details mentioned in ITR

ITR 1626 views 4 replies

hi friends,

In the last year return my CA wrongly put my PAN Number & Bank details. He mentioned that the office boys copied someone else form & entered your details but kept the PAN number & Bank details as it was. There is a refund due & I'll have to correct it. My CA says to correct the PAN number & Bank details now you would have to bribe the IT officers.

Pl. suggests what is the way to go for correcting the PAN number & Bank details wrongly entered in the last year return - ITR form.

Thanks,

Nilay

Dear Friend,

According to Section 139(5), you can file a Revised return. If the assessee discovers any omission or any wrong statement in the return filed earlier, such return can be furnished at any time before the expiry of one year from the end of the relevant assessment year or before completion of assessment whichever is earlier.

You still has got time to file the revised return. Moreover a Revised return replaces the original return.

So, if assessee discovers any wrong statements he can file revised return on condition the overall time limit mentioned has not been expired.

The return was for FY 08-09 filed on march 31st 2010 - last day.

Now is there still time to file a revised one with correct PAN  & bank details ?

Hi friend,

Due date for filing return is July 31 of the respective assessment year. In your case due date is 31 july 2009. But you filed your return on 31 march 2010. Hence your return is a "Belated Return" . As per act you cannot file revised return.

Dear Friend

No need to worry about this mistake, while proceesing the IT return, the dept will come to know about the incorrect PAN given and issues you a notice for providing the correct PAN. So you can wait till you receive the notice or priorly write an application mentioning the IT Ack No stating the correctness of PAN with the copy and also to update the Bank details (attach the copy of the Bank A/c). This will be safer for you.
