I was employed as a Govt. Servant in Raipur. Presently my Income Tax assessment office is in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Now I am retired (three years ago) and settled in a small village in Tamil Nadu which is very near to Union Territory of Pondicherry. I have changed my PAN to Tamil Nadu address some three years ago. Now I wish to get my Income Tax assessment jurisdiction changed to Income Tax Office Pondicherry as I am to open a shop in Pondicherry. Is it Possible? If so what is the procedure?

If you are in the habit of filing e returns, it does not really matter if the jurisdiction is changed or not. What is important is to change your address in the PAN data. Once that is done in the next cycle, your jurisdiction would automatically change. Address in the PAN data can be changed by submitting a PAN data correction form at the nearest PAN service centre ( Maybe Pondicherry), along with a self attested copy of your latest address proof.
But if you are engaged in any business or profession post retirement, I would suggest that you should not wait till the automatic change comes into effect. After you submit the change in PAN address form, please file a petition before the Commissioner having jurisdiction at Raipur requesting the transfer of jurisdiction to the present jurisdiction. For this you need to first know where your present jurisdiction is. A copy of this petition may also be filed with your present commissioner. A copy of the PAN address change reuest form may also be attached with these petitions.
