Quick Summary
This discussion explains how to calculate Long Term Capital Gains (LTCG) for a property purchased in 1987 for £100,000 and sold in 2019 for £2,000,000. It advises using 2001 as the base year for indexation. The indexed cost of acquisition is calculated as £100,000 multiplied by the index for 2001 (289), divided by 100, resulting in £289,000. The LTCG is then £1,711,000, taxed at 20%, amounting to £342,200. An alternative suggestion is to use the Fair Market Value (FMV) as of 1st April 2001 as the cost of acquisition for indexation purposes.

Hello
for this you have to take indexation from year 2001 as base year (100) so you mentioned it as purchased for 100000 so indexed cost ov acquisition will be
100000*289/100 that will be 289000 and ltcg will be 1711000 which will be taxed at 20% rate = 342200
Calculate the fmv of the property as on 1/4/2001 instead of your purchase value and take that value as cost of accquisition for indexation and follow the steps as explained by Mr Aman Verma
