HRA Exemption

Others 209 views 1 replies
One is paying HRA of Rs.5000. 00 per month. Total 60,000.00 pa. He wants to claim HRA exemption while submitting IT return. He is receiving HRA from employer. Is it necessary to upload the Rent receipt while submitting return? Can he claim exemption without a Rent Agreement between House owner or is agreement necessary ?

The HRA deduction available is the least of the following amounts:

a. Actual HRA received;
b. 50% of [basic salary + DA] for those living in metro cities (40% for non-metros); or
c. Actual rent paid less 10% of basic salary + DA

You are not required to attach/upload any documents/Proof at time of filing your income tax return....you have to keep documents/proofs only with you for future purpose, if needed
