Hi CA Club India members,

Now this is interesting . Just want to have feedback from all the students who appeared for May 2010 CA Final (Old & New) attempt.

The purpose of this forum is for rest of the students to get an idea of how the papers were. Especially for November 2010 students.

It isnt mandatory for you guys to give your feedback in the following manner. However it will be of more help if the following questionnaire is filled systematically.

Your Final Comments on May 2010 Attempt = { Accounts was tricky paper. No amalgamation. 2 sums on GW. further 14 marks from AS30 and 8 marks from Buy back, 12 marks from HRA}

MAFA was horrible. Except the first question others were really tough to solve in exam. I know when those sums will be solved in tutions everyone will say it was a simple paper, but when we saw those sums for the first time we felt just like "wat to do".

Audit & Law were ok. But then scoring will be difficult in these two subjects.

Ca institute came up with notification that only theory will be tested in AS 30,31,32 and they also said,internal choices will be there.. But this was actually not followed. so suggestions is make a note of it and prepare for the worst case. don believe iin these notifications too much and restrict ur preaparations.

Be thorough with accounting standards because it is common to accounts and auditing and u can score well in these areas.

For all subjects, have a reading of Compilations, RTP (both OLD and New )

Stick to one reference book, don change reference book at last minute.

If u have started writing exams, try to cover all exams. don absent urself for next exams based on previous exams effects.

Paper-5= {Tough, Your expectations (Marks-50), Suggestions for Next Attempt if Any (I Hope this is my last attempt.....But i feel good time management is essential in Costing paper...it is good if you actually work out problems with steps and working notes in a mock exam environment by practicing old question papers...or u could ask some one to set a 100 mark paper for you and then attempt it.....This suggestion would hold good for all papers especially papers like costing,MAFA , Accounts...secondly conceptual clarity is a must in these exams...some questions tested out how much u understood the concepts.....so u cant simply do standard sums and expect the same thing to come in the exam as is the case with University/School exams.....)}

Paper-6= {Moderate, Your expectations (Marks-49), Suggestions for Next Attempt if Any (I hope this is my last attemptWell i feel(and i may be wrong) that there is nothing like a easy or difficult MICS paper....it purely depends on how well u remember the points to an answer on that day......wht can i say......just read MICS in a focussed and organized manner..note down points by writing it down...MICS is a necessary EVIL(so are all the subjects actually))}

Paper-7= {Moderate, Your expectations (Marks-61), Suggestions for Next Attempt if Any (I hope this is my last attempt...again a student should focus on Conceptual clarity of Laws becoz lets face it after all....u have chosen 2 do CA and as a Chartered in the future u wld be expected 2 be an expert in core areas such as Accounts,Taxation,Law,Audit.....Recent case laws and amendments are of the utmost importance.....Weath tax is hardly 5% of ur portions and it can help u fetch 9-10 marks...(pareto Analysis....modified )}

Paper-8= {Moderate, Your expectations (Marks-63), Suggestions for Next Attempt if Any (I hope this is my last attempt...again a student should focus on Conceptual clarity of Laws becoz lets face it after all....u have chosen 2 do CA and as a Chartered in the future u wld be expected 2 be an expert in core areas such as Accounts,Taxation,Law,Audit.....Recent case laws and amendments are of the utmost importance.....again service tax will help u fetch 15 marks and it is much smaller than Excise or customs.....i hav observed that in IDT going by the recent papers,,,,the examiner really wants to test wht u know in a provision...the questions generally mention the notification No. or section no./rule no....therefore....he may not really bother about whether u know the section no. or not..... he want 2 know whether u hav understood what is in the section/provision...so concentrate more on that}

Your Final Comments on May 2010 Attempt = {I did okay...but i could hav done much better especially in Costing and MICS.......a little more effort in DT in IDT wld hav definitely helped the overall aggregate........The marks i hav mentioned above are an average of the the most optimistic and pessimistic marks i have estimated based on my performance.....the same is subject 2 an error rate of 5-10 marks either way......... }

Tips for next attempt = { Refer above........On the whole focussed study of even a few hours a day for 3 months is much better than sloggin like mad on the last 2-3 days......}

hello sir ji ....... pls tell one thing more that wat is the weightage of pure theory (apprx.) in practical subjects so that we can prepare our self accordingly...... and whether it is necessary to learn case law's in addition to sections in co. law paper..........

pls give advice .......... how we can understand allied laws (30) marks easily..........?

name-kuldeep kothari syllabus-new attempt -first n i thnk last groups appeared-both paper 1-accounts,modearate (marks-70+) u need to be conceptually clear paper2-sfm ,tough (50+) not in a position to suggest paper 3-auditing, easy (55+) just do surbahi bansal's notes n scanner paper 4-law, moderate (55+) just do munish bhandhari's problem solution buk group 2 paper 5- costing ,easy n lengthy (55+) as usual too lenghty ,it's hard to attempt more than 80 marks paper paper 6- isca, tough (60) don't from where half of the paper was but u need to apply ur knowledge paper 7-direct taxes, moderate (65+) only conceptual clearity what can get us through v.g sir rocks paper 8-indirect taxes ,easy (70+) deepak gupta's notes n yogendra bangar aggregate expected-460 - 480 overall from my point of view the level of questions asked n papers was compared to old course. my rating is 8/10. i have made mess of my sfm paper and only due to tention n stress. otherwise situation could have been better than this. my suggestion to all students is cramming the subjects can't let u go through ,understand and make concepts clear as it is very wide course and with office n other things it's not possible to cram n revise everything.papers r practical approach based now. most important thing give ur best in those 3 hrs wid calm mind ,don't panic n do best. one thing more- don't rely on institutes notifications as they did in our case in accounts notification was issued tht no question from as-30 and we got a 12 marks question in paper in law notification was issued about non applicability of winding up ans sebi guidelines and we got 2 ques. fromwinding up and 1 from sebi. in last all the best to all who have appeared for exams..
