Quick Summary
If you've faced substantial hospital expenses in Indore, like Rs. 8.15 lakhs for a private hospital stay, you might be wondering about tax deductions. While direct reimbursement from gross salary isn't typical, you may be able to claim deductions under Section 80DDB of the Income Tax Act for specific critical illnesses. This allows for a deduction of up to Rs. 40,000 (or Rs. 1 lakh for senior citizens) with a doctor's certificate, covering conditions like cancer, renal failure, and neurological disorders.
If the operation is made in respect of the diseases prescribed under section 80ddb then deductions to an extent of 40k (100k if senior citizen) can be claimed
You can claim deduction up to 40000 if dependent suffering from a specified disease covered under section 80DDB for medical treatment . but u should be obtain a certificate from a doctor(Pvt or Govt) to claim deduction. Diseases covered include ataxia, dementia, aphasia, dystonia musculorum deformans, Parkinson’s, motor neuron disease, renal failure, cancers, hematological disorders and AIDS.
