RADHASTAMI

In the month of Bhadra, Bhadrapada, during the waxing fortnight on the eight day we observe the most auspicious appearance of Vrishabhanu Nandini Srimati Radhika, the most beloved associate of Sri Krishna. Just as Krishna’s glories are unlimited similarly Her glories are also unlimited. She is the embodiment of Krishna’s internal, pleasure giving potency - Hladini shakti. She appeared near Krishna’s appearance place in Raval. It is said that her father Vrishabhanu Maharaja found Her floating on the Yamuna river but her eyes remained closed. So although he was elated to have Her but because She was not seeing he was little distressed. But Sri Narada Muni appeared on the scene and he told him not to worry and that very soon She would be seeing. Vrishabhanu Maharaja had faith in the words of the great sage but he was a astonished to see Narada Muni showing so much respect to his daughter and and also offering so many prayers to Her. A few days later Nanda Baba, his wife and Nandalala came to visit Vrishabhanu Maharaja and his family and it so happened that Krishna went to the place where Sri Radha was. Sri Radha then opened Her eyes, seeing Her Krishna.

The pastimes of the divine couple are most wonderful, sweet, amazing, confidential and intimate. Only the pure devotees can fully and properly understand them. But with a humble mood, in the association of the pure devotees we may also hear these wonderful pastimes. For most devotees, who are aspiring for Radha-dasyam, servitorship to Sri Radha, this is the most important day. A new outfit is offered for Mangal aarti and then there is a new day dress. Also Sri Radha is offered lot of new jewelry. The flower decorations are most wonderful on Radhastami. Wonderful Radha-katha is there, followed by an ecstatic abhishekham and kirtan. Then there are the most amazing offerings of foodstuffs which also includes a huge cake for Sri Radha. After Rajbhog the Deities take a little rest. And by Radharani’s mercy there is a nice feast at noon time.(Only half day fasting and then feasting to one’s hearts content). In the afternoon a second day dress is offered. At night there is a special darshan with another night dress and the great opportunity to have SRI RADHA’S CARANA DARSHAN.

The last few years actually Sri Radha is giving carana darshana almost the whole day.

So we can see that Srimati Radharani is more merciful than Krishna, She is more sweet than Krishna and She is more wonderful than Krishna.

There are unlimited qualities of Sri Radha, but 26 are listed as most prominent. One is that She is always controlling Krishna. Actually we should know that there are two considerations, namely tattva-vicar and lila-vicar. Tattva is the consideration of the Absolute Truth, Sri Krishna, the source of everything, the strongest, most beautiful etc. Lila is the consideration of the pastimes, there Srimati Radharani is many times defeating Krishna in arguing, in fighting and even, in beauty etc. According to that consideration Srimati Radharani is Supreme in the pastimes, especially for the Gaudiya vaisnavas, who are completely dedicated to Sri Radha, more than Krishna. But still Krishna is also their Prananath.
