Maharaj Agrasena: The Legend
Agrasenji
Early Life:
Emperor Agrasena was born to King Vallabh of Pratapnagar. He belonged to Suryavamsh Kshtriya dynasty and his birth dates back to the last stages of Dwapar yuga. According to the current calendar, the Maharaj Agrasen was born about 5185 years ago. From his childhood Maharaj Agrasena was known for his qualities of compassion. He never discriminated against anyone and had an equal vision of all.

During youth Agrasen attended the Swayamvara of Madhavi, the daughter of the King Nagraj. Being influenced by his extraordinary qualities, Madhavi chose him as her husband among many princes, including Indra, who came for her. This marriage merged Suryavamshi and Naagvamsi clans and they had 18 children.

The Great Penance:
Later, when Indra became jealous of him and stopped supplying water in his kingdom, Agrasen waged war against Indra. Narada muni, who was very compassionate towards everyone, approached both of them to negotiate peace. He told Argasen to forgive Indra and start penance to please Lord Shiva. Agrasen started severe penance and Lord Shiva appeared before him and asked him to perform Mahalaskhmi vrata.

Agrasen again took up great penance to please Goddess Lakshmi. On being pleased with his penance, Lakshmi devi urged him to take up the Vaishya tradition of business for the prosperity of his descendants. She asked him to establish a kingdom on his name and promised him that she will be blessing his descendants with wealth and prosperity. He went to place near Haryana and established his kingdom which flourished wonderfully. He proclaimed that there would be no violence and animal slaughter in his kingdom.
