Hey Libissa! Great question about GST TDS and the cash ledger. Here’s a clear explanation:

GST TDS & Ledger Impact if Not Accepted in Same FY

  1. GST TDS Deducted by Government:

    • When GST TDS (2%) is deducted, the deducted amount is credited to your Electronic Cash Ledger (not Input Tax Credit ledger).

  2. Acceptance of TDS:

    • You must accept the TDS credit in the same Financial Year in your GSTR-3B (or return) to claim that amount as usable balance.

    • If you do not accept the TDS in the same FY, the amount will not lapse or become ineligible; it remains in your Cash Ledger.

  3. Usability of Cash Ledger Balance:

    • The cash ledger balance (including TDS) can be used for payment of any GST liability (CGST, SGST, IGST) in future periods.

    • It does not expire and does not become ineligible if not accepted in the same FY.

  4. Difference with ITC Ledger:

    • ITC ledger (Input Tax Credit) is different.

    • ITC not claimed or matched within due dates may become ineligible or may need reversal.

  5. Summary:

    • TDS in cash ledger does NOT expire or become ineligible if not accepted in the same FY.

    • You can use that cash ledger balance anytime for payment of GST.

So to answer your question clearly:

Ledger Type Not Accepting TDS in Same FY Effect on Eligibility
Cash Ledger No impact Amount remains eligible
ITC Ledger May lose eligibility ITC can become ineligible
