what's the limit for Gst registration 20 lacs or 40 lacs

Quick Summary
For services 20lakhs for goods and services both 20lakhs for goods 40 lakhs but certain special states like manipur etc have lower limits of 10 and 20 lakhs

Generally, GST registration Limit is 20 lakh (10 lakh for special category states).
But, For Suppliers exclusively dealing in Goods only have a higher threshold limit of Rs. 40 lakh subject to exception specified in Notification No.10/2019.

If u supply only services then gst registration is mandatory is turnover crosses 20lakhs in case u supply only goods then if turnover increases 40lakhs then only mandatory register under gst if u supply both goods and services then limit is 20lakhs
If you are a service provider than limt is 20 lakhs and if you are goods seller then it is 40 lakhs. For some north eastern states and some specified states the turnover limit is half of the above
