Dear Ghanshyam,

As per my opinion only VAT is charged on sale of Newspaper.

And apart from Income Tax, VAT collected on sale of newspaper is to be paid to the Government.

Yes in case of advertisement charges collected service tax has to be paid by the newspaper company. Apart from that check the local VAT rates because in some state their are exemptions for print media.

v.   Release of advertisement directly in the News Papers (not through advertising agency) by the clients, is not covered by Service Tax as service is being provided by the news paper and not the advertising agency.

Hello

yes you guys are right that service tax is collected on the advertisement given in newspaper,

I wanted to know the charges charged by the GOVT on SALE of Newspaper not on advertisement.

Q1- What are the charges (VAT,TAX, Service , sur Charges etc) charged by the GOVT to the newspaper company on sales of newspaper.

Q2- what is the % of charges charged. For Example: if  VAT or tax is charged what is the % of Vat Charged( 2%, 4%, 6%) How much is it ???

Yes VAT is charged on the sale of newspaper and @ 4%.

Regards,

Devendra
