Since you registered for your articled training before 30.04.2012, only GMCS-II course is applicable to you.

You have to complete the GMCS-II course before applying for membership of the ICAI as per Regulation 51A/72A of the CA Regulations, 1988.

Confusion has arisen because after the discontinuance of old GMCS course (as mentioned above), you have to do GMCS-II course.

Receptionist is saying so because students, who registered for articled training on/after 01.05.2012, need to complete GMCS-II course after completion of 18 months of training but before completion of articled training.

But since you got registered for articled training on/before 30.04.2012, the above stipulation is not applicable to you and you need to complete GMCS-II course before applying for membership of the ICAI. Make sure you specify the registration date to him/her.

If the receptionist is not conversant with the ICAI announcement, you may show him/her a printout of the same or else visit the board of studies section.
