Excise Duty Rate

I have 6nos of assemblies are ready with me on 29th Feb. Now my customer gives me a clearance of dispatch on 1st March. Now my question is at what rate of ED I have to dispatch the material i.e. @ 14% or @ 16%?

I have taken Raw Material credit @ 16% which is used to manufacture this assemblies, weather this came in to picture or not?

You should use the old rate.....i think that's 14%....

It all depends on Manufacturing date. As it was manufactured before 29th February so, old rate will be applicable. Dispatch is the event when liability dues.

Excise Duty is levied on manufacture but for the convenience of Assessment the taxable event is Removal of goods from the place of Manufacture. Therefore ED applicable overhere will be 14% as on 1st March 2008. You will get the CENVAT Credit @ 16% since you paid ED on raw mat. and other inputs @ 16%
