Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies the mandatory filing requirements for the DPT-3 form. It's essential to file the form if any deposit amount, including exempt ones like director loans, is outstanding as of March 31st. If no deposits are outstanding, a NIL return is not required. While you might be able to file next year if you miss this year's deadline, be aware that a show cause notice could still be issued.

Better to file NIL Return ,if no deposit outstanding ...even exempted

Filing of DPT-3 form is mandatory if there is any Deposit Amount is outstanding and even exempt Deposits such as Loan from Directors, Related Parties etc. are outstanding as on end 31st March of each year. There is no need to file DPT-3 Form if Deposit or Exempt Deposit Amount is NIL as on 31st March.

If a Company for which DPT-3 is applicable and such Company has not filed the form then there can be chances of receiving show cause notice in future. However you can file DPT-3 form next year.
