DOUBLE PAYMENT OF INCOME TAX THROUGH E-PAYMENT

I have made double payment while remitting my Income Tax Self-Assessement through e-payment through over site .Now after 4 days I come to know about my misatake . I have already fillied my Income Tax Return claiming credit for only one challan .What is procedure to claim excess amount paid through other challan of same amount kindly reply in detail

You can claim the refund of excess payment, only by filing a revised return. You fill up the details of CIN of both the self asst tax challans and upload the same as revised return, if it was filed through e-filing process. Otherwase, send the paper return as revised return to the concened Assessing officer. Please fill up the necessary details of original return such as Ack No. and date of filing, for which a column has been provided in the return. You, will get the refund without any problem.

yes you can show two challans under self assessment tax paid and claim refund.

U need to file the revised return for claiming the additional amount paid by u. However the precondition for filing of revised return is filing of the original return within the time limit provided by the section 139(1)
