1) refer ONLY summary module of Vinod Gupta

2) direct tax amendements (institute publications)

4) practice mannual (institute publ)

please let me know if the above are suffice to get good marks in exam.

experts please answer.. even i am about to follow the same.. method sounds smart considering time in hand n   size of direct tax syllabus..  is it ok to do so ?

Yeah... even I'm planning for the same methodology as above... But the question is.. Is it really enough???

It's a tough call to state whether the above strategy could help you secure good marks, as you are aware that the portions in DT is very vast and technically holistic. It is all about how religiously you are able to revise the material in hand within the available time.

Along with the resources mentioned above, it is imperative to focus on few core topics from standard material, such as PGBP, Assessment Procedure, International Taxation etc.

Best of luck

I Endorse this Risk,So i am taking it.

give up summary module catch hold of wealth tax Good luck.

@ redemption.. Give up summary module?? What are you trying to say? Is this method fine or not?

@ Ketan ,yeah it depends on wat Score is acceptable For u in Direct taxes..If u arent targetting DT ,then its Fine.

Dear friends, it may be a risk to follow only summary of VG Sir + Others by ICAI. Me sitting for both grp in May 2013 but not taking that risk.  At least complete Module 1 ( Capital Gain), Mod 2 ( PGBP) and Mod 5 ( TDS etc ) and then refer for summary. It will be a good approach. If u do these then no need to follow other ICAI's publication except a few very good examples given in Supplimentary mod issued by ICAI.

I know there is time constraint but think that i m sitting for both grp but not taking that risk. There is a big Chance to materialisation of that.

Even VG sir has told that there is no substitute for Modules. All amendments must have to be read a quite time before going to Summary.

if you have read all modules earlier then follow Amendments + Summary. (as said by Great VG Sir)

Guys i know it will be a bit tough but not on the cost of a failure.

Choice is yours.

All the Best.

@ Alok

Anything important From VG sir Barring Amendments and case laws??

@ The Redemption ( your name is?????  - lol )

If you habe done VG Sirs classes then you must know that he gives importants in between the classes and cumulatively a lot of Imp items comes out at last. Hence his summary module is prepared. Sir has told not to leave a single page of Summary.

However i came to know about some importants like Sec 35AD ( for 16 marks) and Sec 44AD 9 (for 8-10 marks) practical sums. These are just assumptions. Apart from these All amendments are important as you are aware.

Nothing else uptill now. If you come to know some possibilities then plz share here or as PM as you want.

Do we have to do the old case laws also from PGBP/ Capital Gains/ TDS. Coz there are a lot of case laws in these chapters and i have skipped them. Just did the case laws from Institute publication. Should i do the rest of the case laws also?

Wat ever u read read it thoroughly

u can score 45+ wit this strategy

even am thinking for the same... but summary notes are not yet published...so is it advisable to rely on summary notes???

Direct Tax Summary Module is available now in the market. If you wish, you can also order online.

VG Summary is available since one month or more than that.

@ Goodluck..... It has been seen from past experiences that ICAI's case law is not sufficient. If you are doing VG Sir then no need to go anywhere for DT. If you have done ICAi's and now u are going for VG Sir then u will not find big difference coz those are covered in VG's module + some good ones.

Ask with any stud of VG Sir, he marks important case laws in each module and those are not much so u can easily do it. PGBP Module covers Summary of All case laws of that module.
