Hi in the recent update, one of our directors failed to update the DIN KYC 3 however resigned . Is it mandatory to get the DIN KYC 3 updated in order to file DIR11&12 for his resignation

indeed DIR-3 KYC is mandatorily required to be filed at the time if appointment, change in designation, cessation or resignation or removal of a director. Without it, it's impossible.
Without DIN KYC one cannot be able to file DIR 11 and 12.
Yes. The director's DIN must be deactivated and therefore his/her actions are not valid. The forms will not be acceptable by the portal.
Also, whether a director is associated with any company/LLP or not, (s)he must file DIR-3 KYC form to maintain the active status of the DIN.
