Tax queries 335 views 6 replies
hello everyone, stamp duty and registration charges paid for the registration of the documents of the house can be claimed as deduction under section 80c in the year of purchase of the house. my query is whether it is allowed on completed house or on vacant plot also?

As I understand, it is allowable as deduction on completion of construction of house property. Vacant land as such is not a house property.

https://cleartax.in/s/registration-charges-stamp-duty-exemption-on-property please go through this. suppose i paid stamp duty in the month of march for a vacant residential plot and it took more than a year to construct it, the how will i be able to take benefit of this section because its allowed only in the year of payment?
Then in that case you cannot take the benefit of stamp duty.

As I understand, such payments cannot be claimed as deduction u/s 80C

Dear Vinish Singhal.,

The Clear Tax website said its Very Clealy... I show this is here...

"If you have purchased or constructed a house property you might be wondering about stamp duty exemption. Stamp duty & registration charges and other expenses which are directly related to the transfer are allowed as a deduction under Section 80C. The maximum deduction amount allowed under this section is capped at Rs.1,50,000.
