Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies whether you can claim both House Rent Allowance (HRA) and deductions for housing loan interest on your Income Tax Return (ITR). Generally, you can claim HRA if you live in a rented property. You can also claim deductions for housing loan interest. However, if you own a house in the same city where you live, you cannot claim HRA. For under-construction properties, HRA can be claimed, but loan interest deductions are only applicable after the house is completed.
If you are living in your own house you cannot claim hra. if you are staying in a rented house you can claim hra. in case you hv taken loan you can claim deduction for housing loan.
If the house is under construction, you can claim HRA, but the interest on housing loan under pre-construction period, can be claimed only after completion of the house.
