u/s 313 the word original director means "director appointed in agm of the comapany or by board as additional director."

as far as your query is concerned the act no where clarifies the meaning of the word original director. so it can be taken that yes a altenate director can be appinted for additional director as additional director is also a original director in his own capacity.
