Clubbing of income - do we need to file itr with 0 income

Hello all, one doubt with respect to clubbing of income...

<<Sorry if this was asked earlier, please message me the link. From my search, could not get... so posting..>>

Husband invests in MF in the name of wife, and he clubs the interest income earned from wife in his ITR with mention of amounts in schedule SPI. Wife does not have any other source of income. In this case, should wife also file an ITR with zero income? Or can she ignore?

Last year, IT dept. sent a mail to wife asking to file return due to investments in MFs exceeding 2 Lakh. For that, we have given a response saying there is no taxable income and interest income is clubbed in husband's name with mention of PAN, and further there was no other mail.

Just want to confirm from experts here if we can skip filing ITR for wife...

Thanks all in advance...

I think your response is correct, since the income generated has been accounted in husband's ITR.

Thanks Neeraj. So we can skip filing 0 income itr for wife,  right?

Yes, that would be my opinion. If I may ask, what is the point that you are worried about? Anything in particular which makes it necessary for your wife to file ITR.

Great, thanks for your response. This helps. We are not worried, just wanted to know the right thing. There is no other income other than bank interest and ltcg, and these are declared in husband 's itr. Since we got mail from it dept last year wanted to know if as per rule do we need to still file saying these are declared in husband's itr.
